Passengers up 1%

Prestwick Airport had 258,212 passengers in July, up 1% on a year earlier. A spokesman said the modest rise in passenger traffic was pleasing given the current pressure in the industry, with the addition of new routes offsetting some falls in load factors on existing routes.
Charter passengers were up by 3%, with the year-to-date passenger total of 901,481 up 1% improvement against the equivalent period last year.
Prestwick handled 1463 tonnes of freight in July, down 37% from last year’s July total. This was due mainly to a 977 tonne shortfall from the withdrawal of Polar scheduled services in June, which was partly offset by an increase in tonnage from Air France. The year-to-date freight volume of 8972 tonnes, is 17% behind the equivalent period in 2007.
