Virgin and Glasgow Prestwick win cargo awards

Virgin Atlantic was named Cargo Airline of the Year at Air Cargo News’ award ceremony on 26 April, whilst Prestwick Airport was named Best Cargo Airport (up to 100,000 tonnes).
The only industry awards voted for exclusively by freight forwarders, and audited by an independent body, was celebrating 25 years as the most coveted prize in air cargo. The jubilee event was attended by over 500 industry executives from around the world.
Prestwick Airport have had strong focus on developing the freight business recently, and is now breaking the 3000 tonne barrier on a regular basis. The March total of 3,260 tonnes was a 5% improvement on March 2007 and a 34% increase on February’s total.
Freight had increased year-on-year with the 31,735 tonnes handled between April 2007 and March 2008 representing a 4% increase on the previous 12 months.
