Airport boss confident on future

Airlines are cutting flights and travel companies are disappearing, but Prestwick Airport’s boss is confident that the airport will weather the storm, the Ayrshire Post reports.
It’s been high profile bust rather than boom for the airport in recent weeks, with the failure of holiday company Seguro hitting the airport hard. Seguro flew more than 70,000 passengers a year out of Ayrshire and its demise has led many to predict tough times for the airport.
But Mark Rodwell is refusing to let an industry slump give him grey hairs. The chief executive says Prestwick Airport could emerge stronger from the current airline crisis. He told the newspaper: Seguro were important to us, but they were a small portion of our business operation.'
'These are tough times for the industry and the challenge facing everyone. Admittedly it will be tight for a time, but there are still plenty of people who want to fly and we’re confident of our position.’
Prestwick are already sourcing a replacement for Seguro, which made up 5% of its 2.4 million passenger total per year. And Mr Rodwell says their future is secure. He said: ‘We are particularly lucky that we have two of the strongest airlines in the industry – Ryanair and Wizz Air. They will be the long term winners from all of this and we have them here at Prestwick.'
