Ryanair to refund police for water and chocolate
27.06.10
Ryanair will refund police who provided water and chocolate to passengers after passengers on one of its planes were stranded on the runway at Prestwick Airport for 6 hours, the Herald reports. Strathclyde Police paid £250 for refreshments for the 160 passengers stranded on the plane because the crew would not open the in-flight stores.
The plane, which was due to fly to Girona in Spain, was stranded at Prestwick due to a French air-traffic-control strike. Ryanair told The Herald its cabin crew could not give the passengers food or drink because customs rules forbade them from breaking the seals of the on-board bars while on the ground. But HM Revenue & Customs denied their rules prevent passengers receiving refreshments in these circumstances.
