Ryanair plane skids off runway
23.12.09
The runway at Prestwick Airport was closed after a Ryanair plane skidded on to the grass verge. The Ryanair flight from Dublin had touched down just before 09:00, but slid on ice while taxiing towards the terminal. No-one was injured and the aircraft was not seriously damaged.
Emergency services were called and the 129 passengers and 6 crew were taken off the plane down steps as normal after the incident. The Boeing 737-800 plane was removed and the runway reopened at 11:00. It has been taken to a maintenance hangar for inspection.
In a statement, Ryanair said: ‘After a normal landing and while taxiing from the runway the aircraft encountered ice and slid just off the runway on to the grass verge. Passengers disembarked normally and were bussed to the terminal. Ryanair apologises for any disruption suffered by passengers.’
