Ryanair axe Stansted flights; other routes suspended or cut for winter
18.11.11
Ryanair have axed their previously popular Prestwick to Stansted route, the Ayrshire post reports. Bosses at Prestwick Airport have blamed aviation tax for the grounding of the route, which was a favourite among commuters who travelled between Scotland and London but is unlikely to return.
Originally, there were several return flights every day on the route, but by last year Ryanair cut it back to one trip a day. It has now been axed completely, together with flights to Gerona and Salzburg for the winter months, with reduced capacity on several other routes.
A spokesman for the airport said: 'It is unlikely that the Stansted flights will return unless we see a reduction in aviation taxes.’
