Pregnant woman slams Ryanair over flight ban

A pregnant woman was told she was too far into her pregnancy to fly home from Spain with Ryanair - 4 days after being allowed to fly there with the same airline, the Daily Record reports. The demand for medical clearance meant she missed her flight - and spent 15 hours stranded at Alicante airport with her two toddler daughters.
On October 10, after being allowed through check-in and security at Alicante Airport, Wendy Townsley, 32, ran into problems at the boarding gate just before the flight was about to take off. Staff stopped her from boarding a plane because she was 34 weeks pregnant. They insisted she must have a medical certificate saying she could fly. But days earlier, staff at Prestwick had allowed her to fly without any mention of a certificate.
She managed to contact her midwife and have a certificate faxed to the airport within minutes. But by the time it arrived, her flight had left and Ryanair told her she would need to pay £400 for another flight for her and her children. She was so angry with the airline, she decided to pay more for a flight home with a different airline.
Ryanair rules state women more than 28 weeks pregnant must carry a ‘fit to fly’ letter from their midwife or doctor. Women over 36 weeks are not allowed to fly. A spokesman for the airline declined to comment when contacted by the newspaper.
