Competition gives airport a Facebook boost

Prestwick Airport has become one of the top UK airports in terms of Facebook popularity after the airport used a competition to boost its internet presence. The competition saw people tagging themselves in pictures taken by airport staff in the city and at local events and gathering ‘likes’ to determine the most popular.
Spokesman Nicola Clark said the airport wants to exploit the potential of Facebook to highlight its routes and benefits ‘in a fun way’. She said: ‘We visited Glasgow city centre, shopping centres, holiday shows and Ayr County Fair, where we pictured around 300 people holding one a destination boards they picked. The pictures were then uploaded onto our Facebook page, people found their photo, tagged themselves and got all their friends to ‘like’ the picture.’
Glaswegians Garry Molloy and Frazer MacRobert won their prize - an all-expenses-paid Ibiza holiday with an value of £2000 - after gathering 700 likes.
