More delays for Seguro passengers - on problem plane's last flight!

Fifty holidaymakers were delayed for over 8 hours because of problems with the plane that was due to fly them back to Glasgow Prestwick Airport. Troubled tour operator Seguro told the passengers it could not fly them all home because of weather restrictions. The announcement came as the plane was grounded for the third time this summer on what was supposed to be its last flight for the holiday company.
In total 165 passengers were due to fly back to Glasgow Prestwick from Lanzarote yesterday afternoon. The company has been in the headlines all summer after their only jet, chartered from Greek firm Sky Wings, broke down twice leaving passengers stranded abroad and others facing delays of more than 50 hours.
When it suffered severe technical difficulties again yesterday the firm drafted in a replacement plane from Avivajet in Dublin. But passengers already abroad were told it couldn't bring them all home because of wind restrictions flying out of Lanzarote.
Families with children - some of whom are due back at school today - were given priority of catching the flight. Others were given the choice of staying away for another week - at the firm's expense - or flying back into Cardiff arriving at 01:55 this morning.
Seguro managing director Richard Burke said: 'Wind restrictions in Lanzarote mean that the Aviajet aircraft can only fly with 115 people. Another 20 or so have been offered another free week in their accommodation in Lanzarote and the remainder were flown back to Cardiff and brought north by coach.'
The Sky Wings plane had been on its last flight for the company, which axed its contract after two very long delays caused by problems with the navigation system. British Midlands will take over all Seguro flights from September 27 until the end of the holiday season in October, with remaining flights to be provided by Futura Airlines.
