MP: Passenger falls bottoming out
17.07.09
Prestwick Airport’s passenger falls are ‘bottoming out,’ MP Brian Donohoe told the Post newspaper. The latest statistics from airport owner Infratil show a total of 162,495 passengers used Prestwick in May – 20% down on 2008.
Annual figures are currently at the same level as in 2005, with freight volumes around half the amount last year. But Mr Donohoe told the newspaper: ‘All the indicators suggest that although the economy has shrunk more than anticipated, an end is in sight. I believe the July and August peaks will help to even out the annual downturn. I hope that Prestwick’s performance figures have bottomed out.’
