Ryanair open new maintenance hangar

Ryanair has opened a second maintenance hangar at Prestwick Airport, creating up to 200 new jobs. The £8 million facility, plus its existing hangar which opened in 2004, will support over 400 jobs for staff to maintain Ryanair's fleet of 260 aircraft.
The facility was opened on Tuesday by First Minister Alex Salmond and Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary. The Scottish government contributed £1.5 million towards the cost of the hangar through a series of grants.
Mr Salmond said: ‘Despite competition for a number of European countries, Ryanair chose to open a second hangar in Ayrshire. This is testament to the skills and quality of the local workforce. The budget airline's commitment to expand its operations in Ayrshire builds on Prestwick's reputation as a centre for excellence in maintenance, repair and overhaul projects.’
