Facebook campaigners want airport name change
16.04.10
A campaign to re-title Prestwick Airport has been launched on Facebook, the Ayrshire Post reports. Over 1200 people have signed a petition on the social networking web site demanding a change to the airport’s title to add the name of legendary Scottish poet Rabbie Burns.
The campaign group calls itself ‘Rename Glasgow Prestwick Airport to Robert Burns International,’ and Burns fan Colin Shearer told the newspaper that he believes the group is building momentum. He said: ‘Tons of of people have signed up in the last few weeks. We hope the people in power will listen to us. Airports all over the world are being named after political leaders and footballers - so why not name Prestwick after a world famend poet like Burns?’
