Air traffic control problem causes flight delays

Problems with air traffic control systems caused flight problems yesterday over the North of England and Scotland. National Air Traffic Services (NATS) said flights were disrupted for much of the day, with delays of up two hours.
Equipment used by NATS air traffic control centre in Prestwick, Ayrshire, is reported to to have failed. This centre controls flights over Scotland, the north of England and Northern Ireland. Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds Bradford, Glasgow, Prestwick and Newcastle were among airports affected, with knock on effects at other UK airports.
