Controversial bombs company closes Prestwick base
15.06.08
A controversial US air freight firm is closing its only Scottish base with a loss of 50 jobs, the Sunday Mail reports.
Atlas Air sparked protests 2 years ago after the newspaper revealed they were flying bombs for Israel to use against Lebanon via Prestwick Airport. Now it is axing all flights from Prestwick and closing its maintenance plant at the airport.
Dan Loh, the New York firm's spokesman, blamed soaring fuel costs. He told the Mail: ‘This does not reflect on the great work we have seen by our staff at Prestwick. It is just a case of us utlilising our fleet as efficiently as we can against the present climate.’
