Airport owners upbeat despite another big drop in passengers

Infratil, the owners of Prestwick Airport, have said they are upbeat about the airport's future despite recording a huge fall in passengers. Just 152,000 passengers passed through the airport in October, a 28% fall on the same month last year. However, Infratil said that the drop was in line with recent trends - passengers dropped 28% in September and 26% in August.
Prestwick Airport's Chief Commercial Officer Graeme Sweenie said extra Ryanair sun flights would help the airport's recovery. He said: ‘2009 has been a challenging year for the airport but our underlying position and future prospects are excellent. Glasgow Prestwick is now Scotland's premier gateway for low cost flights to European hotspots.'
