Better access for disabled passengers
14.09.08
Prestwick Airport has taken a significant step in providing better access for disabled passengers, adhering to new EU guidelines for European airports. Access to departure points has been made easier for wheelchair users with the installation of two platform lifts by SSL Access.
The company completed the installation of two of its SSL C7 model within six weeks of the initial contact by the airport in a contract worth £20,000. SSL director Marc Barry told Building Talk: ‘Previously, passengers in wheelchairs had to go out through another door and around the building to get to the aircraft.’
A spokesperson for the baggage handling department at Glasgow Prestwick said: ‘Wheelchair users are now able to get to the gate more quickly – as are non-disabled passengers.’
