Ryanair axe Stansted route; blame APD
14.07.11
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary has announced the airline's Prestwick - Stansted route will end in October, blaming air passenger duty (AP) for making the budget fare unsustainable. He said APD has been a ‘bugbear’ of Ryanair, particularly on domestic flights.
Mr O’Leary said Ryanair is axing the route at the end of October as it is ‘nuts’ that £12 in APD is imposed on a £9 flight. He added: 'For a flight of £9 you are looking at a duty charge of £12 and £24 for a return; it’s nuts and is just not sustainable.’
