Prestwick Airport revenue per passenger flat
09.06.06
Infratil, Prestwick airport's New Zealand owner, have said that making more money from passengers using the airport remains a 'key challenge'. Passenger income remained flat at Prestwick for a third year even though passenger numbers soared by 20 percent, according to a report in the Scotsman newspaper.
Infratil's annual report for the year to March, released yesterday, showed Prestwick's net income from services such as retail and airprot parking was unchanged at £2.50 per passenger. Total passengers rose to 2.4 million from two million in 2003-4 and freight volumes were down for a fourth successive year, to 28,176 tonnes. Overall earnings before interest, tax and depreciation were up from £3.8 million to £4.3m.
The company said substantial investment was being made in improved facilities at Prestwick, including new shops, airport car park ticket machines, and a terminal overhaul involving upgrading toilets, walkways, flooring and paintwork. A new X-ray machine has been installed and other changes are designed to improve passenger flow.
