Passengers up 1% in November

Prestwick Airport handled 163,389 passengers last month, up 1% on November 2006. The airport also reported a 1% passenger growth in October.
The passenger growth came as a result of increased passengers on Ryanair services to Derry, Belfast and Kaunas, and on Wizz Air's Katowice route. Ryanair also launched a new 3 times weekly service to Budapest at the start of November, which performed well in its first month.
However, the airport said that further Ryanair expansion is unlikely after discussions about a significant future phase ended with both parties unable to reach acceptable commercial terms.
The airport handled 3,001 tonnes of freight last month. This represents increases of 4% on November 2006 and 15% on October 2007 figures. Performance was helped by a strong month for seasonal produce, and equipment for the North Sea oil and gas industries. The year to date freight volume remains 3% ahead of the equivalent period in 2006.
Prestwick Airport continues to benefit from ongoing investment in new facilities, and November saw the completion of resurfacing works to the main runway.
