Radar system to allow more wind farms near the airport
12.07.11
Cambridge Consultants are to provide a radar mitigation system that will allow more wind farms to be built around Prestwick Airport. The new wind turbine radar mitigation system will be based on Cambridge Consultants’ Holographic Radar Technology – a non-scanning, continuously tracking 3D radar that can discriminate between wind turbines and aircraft based on observable differences in their behaviour.
A spokesman for the airport said: ‘We are supporting holographic radar as it is a no-degradation solution, which can operate at low level without loss of cover. Not only is it spectrum friendly, but its 3D plots make seamless integration into existing radar displays easier.'
‘As a modular system, it will make the rollout of mitigation solutions for various wind farms straightforward. The result of this work will be an essential building block for a robust mitigation strategy for Prestwick Airport, in an environment where safety is paramount.’Add to: del.icio.us | Digg it | Newsvine | NowPublic | Reddit
