Study says Glasgow Prestwick generates £175m for Scotland

Almost £175m is generated by visitors arriving in Scotland through Prestwick Airport each year according to a new study on the economic impact of the hub. The study also reveals that it supports 3000 jobs across the country.
In the last decade the airport has enjoyed an unprecedented growth in passenger numbers, with 2.4 million people passing through it last year - largely been driven by the boom in budget airlines, with Ryanair operating 27 routes from the hub.
As well as employing 480 staff directly, the study suggests that Glasgow Prestwick is responsible for 1700 jobs in Ayrshire and 3000 jobs in Scotland, and generates more than £200 million every year for the scottish economy.
With a Masterplan for future development due to be released in the next few months, airport bosses say that they are confident ' the only way is up'. Let's just hope they don't sing it, or worse, make staff sing it.
