Airport for sale
10.10.11
Prestwick Airport is for sale because of falling passenger numbers following cuts by Ryanair, the airport’s largest operator of scheduled passenger flights, according to Bloomberg and Business Week. Marko Bogoievski, CEO of Prestwick owner New Zealand infrastructure investor Infratil, said in an interview: ‘Glasgow [Prestwick] is not performing. It is a difficult asset to see in the [Infratil asset] portfolio in the long term.’
Passenger numbers at Prestwick fell by 20 percent in September, predominately because of Ryanair cuts. With BAA expected to put rival Glasgow Airport for sale this month after being ordered last week by the Competition Commission to sell a Scottish airport whilst it appeals the order to sell Stansted, there could be two airports in the region for sale.
