Ryanair to axe three routes this winter
10.06.11
Ryanair is to axe three of its routes from Prestwick Airport this winter, leaving it with half the network it had two years ago. The budget airline blamed high oil prices for its decision, which will see it ground 80 planes, or around a third of its fleet, this winter. Its winter schedule has shrunk from 24 destinations in 2009 to 15 in 2010 and now 12 in 2011.
The airline will not operate flights from Prestwick to Girona in Spain, Stansted and the Austrian ski resort of Salzburg this winter season. The move follows similar reductions at other UK airports including Edinburgh and Stansted, and means the airline will fly to 12 destinations next winter from Prestwick, concentrating on winter sun routes such as Malaga, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.
