07.02.07
Ryanair announced a new route from Prestwick Airport yesterday. The move came as it confirmed plans to invest €140m opening a new base at a regional airport near Dusseldorf in Germany from June this year.
Ryanair will buy two new aircraft and run 10 routes from Dusseldorf Weeze, a former military airbase about an hour away from the city centre. Destinations from the new hub include Alghero in Sardinia, Alicante, Barcelona, Prestwick, Stansted, Palma Majorca, Rome, Shannon, Stockholm and Venice.
The low-cost airline also announced 16 new routes yesterday, bringing its route network to 454. The new routes mean that Ryanair will be operating from 4 new airports - Alicante in Spain, Maastricht in the Netherlands, Palma de Maollorca in Spain and Zadar in Croatia.
