Olympic flight emergency landing

A mid-air scare for a plane carrying members of Canada’s Winter Olympics committee, who were heading to Athens to collect the Olympic flame, sparked a full-scale emergency at Prestwick Airport, the Ayrshire Post reports. Roads were closed and Troon lifeboat was scrambled as a Canadian Air Force plane radioed for help.
The flight was forced to divert after a suspected fuel leak at high altitude. Rescue services placed a safety cordon around the airport, but after a safe landing, a faulty electrical system on the Airbus A310 was found to be to blame. The flight, which had 49 people on board, was able to continue its journey after 4 hours on the ground undergoing checks.
