More delays for Seguro Prestwick passengers

Over 500 holidaymakers were stranded across Europe and at Prestwick Airport over the weekend after holiday company Seguro's plane was grounded for the second time in 2 weeks, the Herald newspaper reports. As previously reported the plane suffered similar problems last month, stranding over 1000 passengers for up to 3 days, with 300 passengers having their holiday's cancelled 51 hours after they were due to take off.
Passengers travelling to and from Prestwick Airport over the weekend have been enduring more delays after the airline's only plane developed technical problems on Saturday evening. Around 110 passengers due to travel to Las Palmas in Gran Canaria at 18:00 on Saturday evening spent a second night at airport hotels last night as Seguro tried to find a replacement plane.
The Saturday flight was supposed to bring back around 80 passengers from Las Palmas, who have also been stranded abroad for a second night. In addition two flights due to leave Prestwick for Alicante in Spain yesterday - at 09:00 and 16:40 - were also delayed, with passengers on the return flights stranded on Spain.
A spokesman for the holiday company said that the grounded plane, which it charters from Sky Wings, was currently being repaired and had not had its licence suspended, as had been the case last month. He added that Seguro had chartered a second plane from Sky Wings, and that both planes are expected to jet out to Alicante with around 261 delayed passengers last night.
After bringing back passengers from Spain, one plane was then due to take the delayed holidaymakers from Prestwick to Las Palmas at 07:00 this morning, 37 hours late, and will bring back the customers who are stranded there. The spokesman said that Seguro's flights to Faro and Palma today would run as usual, and that their services should return to normal 'later in the week'.
