New jobs blow at Prestwick Airport
06.07.08
Forty workers at Prestwick Airport are facing the axe just a month after a previous jobs blow at the hub, Scotland’s Sunday Mail reports.
US freight firm Atlas Air announced they and subsidiary Polar Air were closing their maintenance plant at Prestwick Airport last month, with the loss of 48 jobs. Now the newspaper reveals that the airport plan to lay off 40 staff as a result of the knock-on effect.
Mark Rodwell, Prestwick Airport chief executive, told the newspaper: ‘Our business development team is working hard with other operators in an attempt to fill the gap and to attract new business. Every effort is being made to minimise any potential job cuts.’
Jim Winter, of the union Unite added: ‘We are hoping for a 30-day consultation period during which we will try and negate some of the redundancies - if not all.’
