Airport boss 'cannot rule out sale'
03.12.11
The managing director of Prestwick Airport has refused to rule out its sale as budget airline Ryanair, its main customer, said passenger numbers are expected to flat line at the hub next year, the Herald reports. Iain Cochrane said the announcement this week of 4 new routes for next summer by the budget airline, which currently accounts for 98% of passenger flights at the airport, had put it on a stronger footing after 3 years in which passenger numbers have tumbled.
However, Mr Cochrane said a decision on whether to sell the airport would be made by executives at its owner, New Zealand-based infrastructure company Infratil. He said: ‘I am not in a position to rule a sale in or out.’ Marko Bogoievski, chief executive of Infratil, said last month Prestwick Airport is ‘not performing’. He said: ‘It is a difficult asset to see in the portfolio in the long term.’
