Passengers down 31%
02.02.10
Just 107,033 passengers passed thought Prestwick Airport in December, down 31% on a year earlier, but in line with recent monthly figures. The airport said its winter sun destinations continue to perform well, with strong load factors, and the lost passengers are primarily on domestic UK and Irish routes axed by Ryanair in the last 12 months.
The airport benefited from the bad winter weather conditions in December, handling diversions from Heathrow, Gatwick, Dublin, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Flights from airlines including Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, BMI, Logan air, and easyJet landed at Prestwick Airport.
Freight volumes in December were 877 tonnes, down 25% on last year.
